Calcutta (Kolkata) is a city in the western Bengal region of India. With an estimated population of over 18 million people, Calcutta has the highest number of people living below the poverty line – that is: those who earn less than 30 Rupees per day (80 cent).
More than 2 MILLION people here live on the streets, around 200,000 of these are children, 72% of whom suffer from chronic illnesses such as TB, skin diseases and diarrhoea.
Our aim is to help those at risk by fighting poverty and promoting health.
